Survey note
We come and look. Board age, cable type, earthing arrangement and the route a new circuit would take all get noted, along with the awkward bits you already know about.
Fault-finding · Consumer units · Rewires
We are a two-van electrical firm working across the Ashfold valley. Every job gets a written scope before anyone lifts a floorboard, a booked window instead of a vague morning, and test results in your hands the day we finish.
What we cover
Typical visit lengths taken from our own job sheets. Anything longer than a day is staged so kitchens, bathrooms and tills keep working overnight.
Fault-finding & tripping circuits
60–90 minCircuit-by-circuit isolation to find the actual fault, not a guessed replacement. You get the cause in writing.
Consumer unit upgrade
Half dayNew board with RCBO protection, a labelled circuit list, and power back on before we leave.
Full or partial rewire
3–8 daysStaged room by room with dust sheets and a daily tidy. Old rubber or fabric cable is removed, not buried.
EV charger install
3–4 hoursLoad check first, so the charger and the shower can share a supply without nuisance tripping.
Garden power & outdoor lighting
Half dayArmoured cable at proper depth, weatherproof points, switched or timed from inside the house.
Inspection report (EICR)
2–4 hoursFull test schedule with plain-English notes on what must be fixed now and what can wait.
Lighting layout & dimming
Survey 45 minLevels measured on site so display, task and back-of-house lighting are not all on one dumb switch.
Three-phase supply checks
2 hoursBalance and spare capacity measured before you order machinery or a bigger oven.
Desk power & data containment
Half dayFloor boxes and trunking set out against your furniture plan, so nothing trails across a walkway.
Emergency lighting & testing
1–2 hoursDuration test run, logbook entries completed, failed fittings listed with replacement options.
Plant & kitchen equipment wiring
By scopeIsolators within reach, correct protection for motor loads, labelled clearly for your cleaning team.
Fit-out first fix
By scopeWe work to the shopfitter’s programme and confirm second fix dates in writing up front.
Not sure which of these your problem is? Describe what the lights and the board are doing — that is usually enough for us to name the job.
Describe the jobStandards
A finished job is a tested job. These checks happen on every visit, whether it is one socket or a whole house.
How it runs
Four steps, with no surprises in the middle. You know the price and the dates before any work starts.

We come and look. Board age, cable type, earthing arrangement and the route a new circuit would take all get noted, along with the awkward bits you already know about.
02
A fixed price against a written scope: what is included, what is excluded, and what we would leave for later. If the job is smaller than you feared, we say so.
03
Dates confirmed with arrival times, plus which circuits go off when. Fridges, freezers, routers and shop tills are planned around before the first screw comes out.
04
Everything tested and labelled, the certificate written up on site, and a walk of the job together so nothing is discovered a week later.
Is it urgent?
Read this before deciding how quickly you need us. If you are unsure which column you are in, treat it as the first one.
Turn the affected circuit off at the board — or the main switch, if you cannot tell which one it is.
Nothing is getting worse today, so you will get a better job by giving it a proper slot.
Supply, meters and capacity
Before you commit to a charger, a bigger oven, a workshop machine or a heat pump, the incoming supply needs checking. We measure what is actually there, then tell you whether load management solves it or whether the supply itself has to be upgraded — and who is responsible for that work.
Questions we get every week
Rarely. Most work is done circuit by circuit, so the rest of the house or unit stays live. A board change needs the main switch off for roughly two to three hours, and we confirm that window the day before so you can plan around fridges, freezers and anything on a router.
It depends on the cable, not the age of the building. If the existing wiring tests well and the insulation readings are healthy, a new consumer unit with modern protection is often all that is needed. If we find rubber, fabric or heat-damaged cable, a partial rewire of those circuits is the honest answer. The survey results decide it, and we show you the numbers either way.
A certificate appropriate to the work — minor works for small jobs, an installation certificate for new circuits and boards — with the full schedule of test results, a labelled circuit list, and photographs of anything that ends up hidden. Landlords and sellers get the inspection report in a format agents and insurers accept.
Yes, and it is usually cheaper that way. First fix goes in before plastering and units, second fix afterwards. Send the other trades’ dates with your enquiry and we will slot our two visits into their programme rather than asking everyone to work around us.
We lift and refit floorboards, and we fill chases back to a flat, paintable finish. We do not skim whole walls or redecorate — the scope says exactly where we stop, so you can brief a decorator without a gap in the middle.
No. An inspection report is a scheduled test of the whole installation that produces a condition record and a list of coded observations. Fault-finding is a targeted visit to trace one specific problem. If a report turns up something that needs attention, we quote for that separately rather than rolling it into the test fee.
Small works and testing usually land within a fortnight. Rewires and fit-outs are booking four to five weeks out, because they are staged around other trades. Safety faults are handled ahead of planned work — describe what is happening in your message and we will tell you the same day.
